Vinh's Story

On December 16, 2018, Vinh was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He underwent chemotherapy and had 5 harsh surgeries throughout 2019 to remove his tumor. Unfortunately, the cancer began to spread to his lungs and brain. Treatments continued throughout 2020. Vinh could walk for some time. Sadly, in late June of 2020, Vinh sadly passed away. We miss him dearly.

Darryl's story

Darryl was 4 when he was diagnosed with cerebellar ganglioglioma (a type of brain cancer). Darryl underwent 2 major surgeries in Singapore. Following his surgeries, Darryl and his family moved to the U.S. seeking other

treatment. Unfortunately, there is no available medicine/treatment at the moment. Currently, they are monitoring his tumor growth through MRI every six months. Darryl’s left side of his body is weak and he wears an ankle-foot orthosis to help him walk steadily. In addition, he has an impairment in his left ear.

Meet Vinh

In 2020, Vinh was a junior here at Sunset High School. He enjoyed walking, listening to music, watching Youtube, and reading. Vinh was personable and had a huge heart. He cared a lot about those around him.

Meet Darryl

In 2020, Darryl was in second grade. He enjoys playing with other kids and learning. His teachers describe him as smart, friendly, and sweet. Hopefully, there will be treatment for Darryl in the future. Darryl is an amazing and brave little boy and ready to conquer whatever comes his way. To sum it up, Darryl stands as a beacon of hope: someone you can look to for inspiration, a smile, or a friend.

About the Event

In 2020, Cram the Stands Sunset hosted two events during the men's and women's basketball games. Performances from the cheer team and interactions with Vinh and Darryl during half time helped contribute to the success of the fundraiser. Together we raised $34,000 for pediatric cancer research at Doernbecher.
